Booster & Drainers

By Nan S. Russell Like huge anchors on cruise ships, other people can hold you down. Not intentionally, but their negativity impacts you. Its hard to be winning at working when youre anchored in place. Its hard to see the next great idea and enthusiastically embrace it, when youre feeling a sticky heaviness. And its hard to think creativity when youre feeling empty. Like a balloon with air pouring out, deflated and flat at the end, I hung up the phone, drained. For the most part Id offered a supportive ear with occasional contributions of asked for advice. Several days in a row, he called or stopped by my office, with a second, and a third, and a fourth verse of the same song. After each encounter, my energy felt zapped. It got to the point where Jays presence alone started my energy leaving, replaced with an empty heaviness as if his negative energy was seeping into me. It took me awhile to figure it out, but Jay was an energy drainer. Ive learned over the years, if I spend too much time around people with negative energy to share, my optimism, and enthusiasm for work (or life) are adversely affected. You may know people in your own work life who hold you down, zap your enthusiasm, cheer you into self-destruction, and occupy so much of your time and energy that you cant offer the best you to anyone, including yourself. And you know people who do the opposite. My solution? Use that feedback. Spend less work time with the drainers, and more time with people who offer you an energy boost. Once youve identified how it feels to be around energy boosters, look to fill gaps, especially on work teams, with people who bring positive energy to a meeting, who are fun to be around, whose enthusiasm and positive approach lifts your spirits, enhances your creativity, and adds to your work life. Find and stay close to these energy boosters. I use a simple measurement to identify energy drainers and energy boosters: the laugh factor. The more laughter I find in the process of doing business, the more energy I know is in the room. The more energy in the room, the more gets done. I look for people I can laugh with, have fun with and share ideas with. My work results are better when Im around people who make me feel energized when I leave them. Yours can be, too. The Garden Gnome; A Culture All It’s Own

By David G. Petten The Garden Gnome is not just another yard figurine. It has its own distinguished history, culture and controversy attached to it. Before you buy a Garden Gnome for your home be sure to know all of the factors that go along with it. For starters the history of the Garden Gnome dates back to Germany in the 1800s. The original statues were made out of clay and were hand crafted. They then made their way to England in the mid 1800s. Around the late 1800s to the 1900s they made their way into America. During WWII production of these figurines came to an abrupt halt. The German factories were commandeered and converted to support the war efforts. In 1960s the gnomes picked up popularity again however, they were mass-produced using plastic. Because so many of them were produced they gained the stigma for being a tacky lawn ornament. The clay hand carved Garden Gnomes have been family heirlooms for many families. The Clay figurines are making a come back of sorts, more companies are reviving the old tradition. Any Garden Gnome enthusiast will tell you that Garden Gnomes are wonderful creatures that are very good luck to have in your garden. They are primarily vegetarians, joyful little people who enjoy having fun and helping out with things. It is believed that having one in your garden will be helpful in the day-to-day activities that are necessary to proper garden management. It is believed that they have an excellent ability to be able to reflect on history and an even better perspective on the future. Not all people have such a jovial perception of the Garden Gnome. There are some that disagree with the use of the Garden Gnome. They believe that to have a Garden Gnome in the home is slavery and that the Garden Gnome should be freed. There are groups that will take a Garden Gnome from a yard if they see it. Relocating it to the forest where they believe they find their freedom. A few of the groups choose to operate under the raidar, sneaking into peoples yards and stealing these figurines. There is a political group that actively lobbies for the ban of Garden Gnome slavery. Whether you are a follower of the Garden Gnome culture or just someone who thinks they are cut enough to go in your yard these figurines have a lot of history behind them and can be a wonderful addition to your yard. Just be sure to keep them away from the gnome liberators if you would like to keep them for a long period of time. Get A Low Cost Loan By Using Balance Transfers

By Joseph Kenny Keeping interest payments down is a sign of good money management and credit card tarts have got it down to a fine art. Credit card tarts take advantage of 0% balance transfer deals to make sure they never pay interest on their credit card debt. Credit Card Tarts It works like this. The borrower applies for and gets a credit card that offers 0% on balance transfers for a fixed period. Usually this is six months to a year. The borrower transfers the existing debt on to the credit card and makes repayments as usual. Since no interest is being charged, all repayments are reducing the amount of money owed, which is good news for the borrower’s long term financial health. At least six weeks before the 0% deal is due to expire, the borrower applies for another 0% credit card and transfers the remaining balance on to the card. This means the borrower has another period of clearing debt without paying interest. This strategy can be repeated several times, though many credit card companies have got wise to it and are now charging balance transfer fees. Low Cost Loans This is a great strategy for people who are trying to reduce debt, but it turns out that it can also be used for debt-free people who want to get a low cost loan. To do this, borrowers need to find two different types of credit cards. Debt free people with a good credit rating should have little problem with this strategy. First of all, the borrower will need to find a card that offers a low balance transfer rate for the life of the balance. There are several of these to choose from. Many of them also offer other incentives, so it is worth shopping around. Second, the borrower needs to find a card that allows a fee-free balance transfer, as well as credit card cheques with a 0% interest rate. There are a few cards that meet these criteria. Transferring The Balance Third, the borrower needs to do a balance transfer from the low rate card to the 0% card. This means that the 0% card will be in credit. Finally, the borrower can write a credit card cheque from the 0% credit card and pay it into his or her current account. The net effect of this is a loan at a much lower rate than normal bank loans. Even for people that don’t need a loan, this can be a good way of making some cash, especially if they are able to stash the cash in a high interest account. What About The Credit Rating? One danger of this strategy is if borrowers make too many credit card applications in a short space of time. This can count against them in a credit file. It is also essential to make at least the minimum payments on the required dates to maintain a good credit history. Natural Help for Colds and Flu

By Denice Moffat Gastrointestinal and respiratory crud: Hmm. . .Seems like this month I am seeing gobs of gastrointestinal and sore throat symptoms. Nausea, vomiting, coughing. . . It is testing out as Shigella (gut crud), and some type of Streptococcus (respiratory crud) in our neck of the woods (the United States). Its amazing how many people dont understand the difference between colds and flu and viral vs. bacterial infections, so lets review that first: Viral infections are usually responsible for flu symptoms: Flu symptoms include achy muscles and joints, alternating fever and chills, white or clear watery discharge, flu like symptoms. Skin symptoms would be blisters. Asthma is usually associated with viruses. Pneumonia can be both viral and bacterial in origin. Bacterial infections are often associated with colds: Bacterial signs and symptoms include diarrhea, fever, yellow discharge with congestion, and pus, skin discharges would be carbuncles, acne, boils and secondary infections causing lots of oozing and scabbing. Of course each specific virus or bacteria has its own signs and symptoms, but that’s what we see in general. I usually just ask the body which one it is. The body will usually tell me if its a virus or bacteria, but wont often let me know which particular strain of virus or bacteria it is if I ask from a list. And I have seen a viral infection followed by bacterial infections after a few days. Your body will tell you with muscle testing which products, given a list of products, will work to stimulate the immune system to help fight off infections of both kinds. I hope that helps. So, here’s what’s working for most people: More electrolytes: fluids, chicken soup, mineral waterwe use liquid minerals and vitamins for better absorption. Some people are using the new product called Airborne for the electrolytes and it seems to be helping. Rosemary: For some reason people keep testing they need this herb specificallyin capsule, tea or soup form, it doesn’t matter. I’ve been telling people that even if you use canned chicken noodle soup, Liptons dehydrated chicken noodle soup (which does not contain MSG) or make your own chicken soup, add additional parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. All these herbs are antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and have lots of minerals and a full complement of cell salts in them. I add a dash of Irish moss powder as well, but that is difficult for most of you to find unless you have an awesome herb store. Viral Immune System Stimulator Drops and Bacterial System Stimulator Drops by Professional Complementary Health Formulations: Most of my clients have one or both of these homeopathic drops. What’s working for us is to take a dropper (about 17 drops) of each twice a day either under your tongue or in water for exposure, and up to three days after the symptoms stop. Ipecac homeopathic tabs (30x strength) to control the nausea or vomiting3-7 tabs under the tongue daily as needed until these symptoms stop. You can get the Hylands brand at your local health food store. Immune Stim Herbs: Many of you have these for various immune challenges. The dose right now is two per day for the next 2-3 weeks. This is a combination of herbs that I was guided to make up many, many years ago to fortify the immune system. The formula contains: Alfalfa, Astragalus, Black Walnut Hull, Burdock Root, Chaparral, Echinacea, Goldenseal, Irish Moss, Red Clover and Wormwood in equal portions. (Ooopsso much for my secret formula that seems to work great!) Remember to eat your raw fruits and veggies. It’s cold out so many of us have not been eating these foodsbecause they are cold! Our immune systems are suffering from that and all the holiday stress and extra sugar. Cut back on sugar: Each time you eat sugar it suppresses your immune system for about six hours. Alcohol also suppresses your immune system because the liver has to work overtime to help remove it from your system. Ester C: Ester C is easier on the stomach and has a full complement of molecules to make up the total vitamin C molecule500mg/day is what is needed (or the juice of two fresh oranges). About half my clients seem to need this. Lemons: The juice of one fresh whole lemon once daily for 2-3 days has been helping to break fevers. It helps to flush the system and fry the bacteria, plus its alkalizing. Drink it straight or diluted, it doesnt matter as long as its fresh and not that concentrated stuff off the shelf or out of the freezer section. Wash your hands regularly and remember to clean the phones and door handles. Carry your own pen and use it instead of using the one the grocery store provides! Imagine all those germs on that utensil! Well, I hope this helps you all keep from getting the crud! Good luck this cold and flu season! What’s Your Selling Sentence?

By Mike McDaniel What’s your Selling Sentence? If you have a business, you need a selling sentence. Sometimes called the Defining Sentence or the Secondary Statement, the Selling Sentence is the group of words that clarify and refine the the nature of your business when seen or heard with the name or logo of your business. You tell em what you do for them’ with your Selling Sentence. The Selling Sentence clearly differentiates your business in the eyes of your current and potential customers or clients. “When it absolutely, positively, has to be there overnight” reinforces the FedEx brand. McDonald’s has used Selling Sentences for individual products. “Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun” Selling Sentences are similar to Unique Selling Propositions, or USPs. But they differ because that they are more focused and are presented in one sentence or less. USPs can be much longer, resembling a mission statement. Develop your own Selling Sentence to be displayed under the business name or logo. If it won’t fit there, it is too long. The Selling Sentence should appear in the same spot every time the name of the business or logo is displayed: newspaper ads, store sinage, yellow pages, business cards. Everywhere the logo goes, so goes the Selling Sentence. Look at the big boys. Lots of Selling Sentences, some short enough to be called Selling Statements. All fit under the business name. A Selling Sentence is extremely important if your business name does not reflect on the nature of the business or the product. FedEx was shortened from Federal Express, both of which mildly suggest package handling. Since the Selling Sentence accompanied all references, we all know FedEx is a package delivery service. Murray’s Plumbing would not need a Selling Sentence to clarify the nature of the business, but rather one to set it apart from hundreds of competitors. Murray’s Plumbing We show up on time and smell good or your don’t pay! Now Murray and his people must maintain the Selling Sentence by keeping the promise. FedEx says over 99% of packages get there overnight. The Selling Sentence should not change unless you intend to re-brand the business, so get it right from the get-go. Convene your own brain trust of employees and friends and peers for a free association session. List what can be said about your business in one sentence. Emphasize your biggest customer benefit. Write them all down, no matter how goofy. With the group, trim the list to 10 before you bring out the refreshments. Sleep on it and make a final decision the next morning. Choosing a Garden Planter

By Kenny Yong Selecting suitable garden planters for your home garden depends mainly on the type of plant you wish to grow. The quantity of space necessary for the roots and the plants fullness and height will suggest the right size. Your gardens growing environment design will decide the best planter material. In addition, keep in mind to consider the needs for relocating your garden planters or moving them permanently if youre renting a home or you have a huge garden to arrange. The bigger, the better, is one major rule in choosing garden planters. Small planters will soon seem to look much smaller when the plants grow maturely and you will need more garden planters to fill up the space of your garden. Moreover, bigger planters assist slower drying as those of smaller ones. If youre thinking of perennial planting, then you can purchase the biggest planter that you can buy for you to accommodate more wear and growth years. This article provides you a checklist to aid you choose the best garden planter for your home garden: A garden planter should have more space for a certain quantity of soil and must permit enough growth of roots but not too huge though. Each garden planter should contain drainage holes. You should ensure that the planter comes with bottom holes or it is crafted with materials which allow you to drill drainage holes in it. Make sure that the soil can breathe inside the planter. The roots of the plant require water for oxygen requirement, as well as nutrients. Metal, wood and concrete garden planters are absolutely great for winter seasons and regions. Terracotta or clay planters have both splitting and freezing vulnerability. Your garden planters group or your planter location must then be considered. There should be adequate support in your patio or balcony for the planter weight or planter group. Be stylish by thinking out the amount of space for your planter location and the look you would want to suggest. Cool colors like light yellow creates a much larger space look. Intense shades, on the other hand, create a tinier space look. When it comes to taking care of your planters, such task will eventually provide you with much more benefits. Of course, you would want to grow healthier plants. This would be possible if you ensure the garden planter is free from pests and diseases. You should as well provide enough drainage and maintain structured sound. Here are few other tips in caring for your home garden planters: Garden planters must be sterilized prior to their usage especially for terracotta and absorbent wooden planters. Provide in-between pot spaces for planter clean-up. Wooden and metal planters should be treated with non-toxic paint, stain or waterproofing stuffs. Lay the bottom of the planters above the ground to allow a good drainage and to keep the plant roots and planters away from water damage. Check on expanding plant roots. If you observe roots peeping through the planters drainage holes then there is now need for you to replant into a bigger pot. Remember to keep the planters insulated during winter to prevent thawing and freezing. Having garden planters entails a lot of care and maintenance. This is one way to keep your home garden fun and kicking. For more information and tips about gardening. Visit us at http://www.GardeningWebs.net/. Weighty Matters: Weight Loss Techniques that Work

By Gary Patrick Recently there was a news story about a scientific study which concluded that eventually 9 of 10 American men and 7 of 10 American women will become fat, or in politically correct terms, overweight or perhaps waistline challenged. We have known for years that excess body weight and its more extreme form obesity were major problems, but the findings of this study, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, indicate that these problems may be even more severe than we have thought. Dr. Elizabeth G. Nabel is quoted in Yahoo News as saying that the study shows we could have an even more serious degree of overweight and obesity over the next few decades. The true costs to the world of global obesity are unknown, but they are doubtless staggering. For the obese individual the costs are not confined to an unattractive bodily appearance. More threatening in the longer term are the seriously adverse health ramifications. For example, obesity is associated with a greater risk of heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and some cancers. And while the greatest negative consequences are reserved for obese or substantially overweight individuals, those whose weight problem is more moderate are also subject to negative consequences, and those consequences include a negative impact on both the quantity of life and quality of life. Specifically, just being moderately overweight raises the risk of sleep apnea and raises cholesterol and blood pressure, which are well known contributors to heart disease. A Mayo Clinic researcher, Mark Vander Weg, is quoted on Yahoo as saying that the studys conclusions add to a growing body of evidence that makes it increasingly apparent that more effective prevention and treatment strategies are urgently needed. Now I assume no pun was intended by the phrase growing body of evidence.” More seriously, he is absolutely right: we need better prevention and we need better solutions for people for whom prevention is no longer an option and we need them urgently or the costs to society and the many affected individuals will become even greater. In another article (“Rapid Personal Change”), I made reference to techniques of personal change and their common applications. One of the common applications, as you might have guessed by now, is Weight Loss; or better stated: the healthy loss of excess body fat. Your body weight includes your bones, your muscles, your tendons, etc. but you dont want to lose those because they are good things. Excess fat, however, is useless and indeed harmful. And that is what you want to lose or avoid gaining. So healthy weight loss is fat loss, but for simplicity well just call it weight loss. Now if enough factors are present, there are various approaches that will work to some degree for weight loss. There are two approaches, however, that I believe provide the greatest degree of lasting success for the greatest number of people. Before getting into some details, let me provide you with a little background. If you are like most people you have tried to lose weight, and/or make other positive changes, a number of times. And, again like most people, you have been unsuccessful a majority of the times, perhaps meeting with mixed results upon occasion but not enjoying substantial and lasting success. Why? Most people try to lose weight, or make other improvements by changing their CONSCIOUS thinking. But the two biggest drivers of behavior are: (1) SUBconscious thinking that is, the beliefs and images we unwittingly internalized years or decades ago — and (2) the degree of balance versus disruption in the body’s energy system. If the subconscious mind’s deeply implanted beliefs and images, for examples, “I am meant to be fat” or “I am unpopular with the opposite sex,” do not serve us, then we need to change them in order to live healthy, harmonious, and happy lives. But you cannot change them by relying primarily on the conscious level of thought. That would be analogous to trying to rid your garden of weeds by clipping the weeds but leaving the roots in place. To make effective and lasting improvement, you need to deal with the roots. And you do this either by balancing bodily energy flow through a technique called EFT, which stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques; or by working directly at the subconscious level through hypnosis, which is a mind energy state. Ideally, for lasting weight loss or other major personal changes, you would do both, that is, a combination of EFT and hypnosis (although either can work well by itself). Whether working at the subconscious level of thought or working on the body’s energy system or both, the goal is to root out your old negative beliefs and images and supplant them with new and empowering ones. That will lead naturally to the behaviors and the results you want. And that is what todays premier coaching services and products do, and that is why they work so very well. Hypnosis is actually a natural and beneficial human phenomenon and nothing weird or spooky like Hollywood falsely depicts it. EFT, whose founder is Gary Craig, is a newer kid on the block, although the basis for it can be traced back to ancient Chinese medicine. Both of these powerful techniques are effective for healthy weight loss. Both also have numerous other common applications with high success rates. Gary Patrick is an author, speaker and mind-body coach. He is the founder of Rapid Results. His interest in both fitness training and hypnosis began in his teenage years. At first, Gary Patrick engaged in self-study to learn hypnosis. Since then he has studied with master hypnotists Ormand McGill, Paul McKenna, Gerald Kein, Jerry Valley, and Tom Nicoli. In recent years, he has become more and more interested in Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). EFT works well on a variety of challenges, often more quickly than anything else. When EFT is combined with hypnosis, they become a powerful double whammy for positive change. Gary Patrick has studied in person with Gary Craig, the founder of EFT. His lifelong quest for learning has led him from high-school drop-out to Ph.D., from Certified Personal Trainer to Certified Anti-aging Professional, and from Certified Hypnotist and Certified NLP Practitioner to Advanced EFT Certificate holder. He mixes these modalities together to provide each client with a unique, individually-tailored approach. Visit Gary at http://rapidresults.biz. Meta Advertising

By Ivy Hastings It’s amazing how advertising has so drastically changed in the last couple of years. The advent of DVRs and online content has completely changed the advertising landscape. Advertisers are pressured to come up with new ways to capture eyeballs. Advertising has become more creative, more edgy, and more memorable. The YouTube category for advertising contains 24,000 results. Advertising has now advertising has literally become destination content. Consider this. Last night I was watching television and I saw an advertisement advertising an advertisement. I’m not kidding. It was an ad for Career Builder notifying viewers to tune into watch the new ad campaign for Career Builder that will be aired on the Super Bowl. The ads have become so popular that the agency is actually promoting the campaign as if it were a feature. Is this the beginning of a new genre called Meta Advertising? Other advertisers have embraced user generated content. There are numerous contests for users to create the next campaign for products including Sony, Toyota, and L’Oreal. The contests have resulted in thousands and thousands of entries. Now everyone has the ability to become a producer, writer, and actor, why not harness all this free creative talent? But does this mean the end of the ad agency creatives? Probably not, but in the case of user-generated advertising, ad agencies will have to give up creative control. More and more marketers should embrace this trend as the landscape changes.
